Peg McPartland, co-Vice President
Peg Kem McPartland is Professor Emeritus at Golden Gate University where she taught mathematics for many years. She has a master's degree in mathematics and an MBA. Currently, she is involved in various educational projects that range from teaching at several local colleges to working with a third grade class in Oakland.
Her long-range commitment has been to Mathematics Education, and in particular, curriculum development. One major concern is the issue of integration of technology into the curriculum. With a consortium of
mathematics faculty from schools throughout the U.S. she worked to create a new national model for college algebra. The result of this collaboration is the text Explorations in College Algebra by Kime and Clark, for which she is the co-author of the Instructor's Manual. She is also the co-author of the Student Study Guide for Calculus by Hughes-Hallett. She continues to make presentations at conferences on mathematics education. In the past she worked for ACCESS, Lawrence Hall of Science, a program in curriculum development and teaching strategies with Oakland high school teachers and students. This program, and other projects with teachers in several Bay Area school districts, has widened her experienand increased her enthusiasm.
Peg was pleased to work with the San Francisco EYH in the early eighties where she developed some of her most valued professional relationships. Peg and her husband love outdoor activities, but it is her passion for swimming that puts her in the Mills College pool at 7 a.m. with her Masters team swims, rain or shine.

TK Subramanian, Secretary
T.K. is a retired Nuclear Professional. He served four decades in the Department of Atomic Energy, India, Atomic Energy Canada Ltd., Bechtel Power, USA and Department of Energy in USA. He is also a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) of Toastmasters International.
A book that traces the global nuclear history- Brighter Than Thousand Suns – that TK read in 1959 – led him to eulogize UC Berkeley and the Bay Area. TK’s son – a math club President at Hanford HS (WA state) brought to light in 1988 that CA was 29th out of 50 states in Math tests scores! Such a cultural shock led TK to start (with support from DOE and LLNL) the Annual Math challenge in 1990. This program motivates California students to enjoy math and to work towards better academic achievement. This led TK to be inducted into the Math/Science Network, where TK has served as a Board member, Treasurer and Secretary. His current dream is to see EYHN renamed to the “EYH International Network” just like Toastmasters International. |
