Rachel Sheinbein, President
Rachel Sheinbein joined CMEA Capital in 2008 and is a Senior Associate with the Energy and Materials team. Before CMEA, Rachel was a consultant for start-ups in the areas of bio-plastics, solar and water treatment.
For 9 years prior to consulting, Rachel worked in several positions at Intel Corporation – as a Chemical Engineer for industrial liquid waste and wastewater systems, a Program Manager for Environmental Health & Safety, focusing on metrics and new technology, a Purchasing Analyst, and a Strategic Product Manager for Supply Chain IT.
She also is an angel investor, focusing on clean technology, and co-chairs the Keiretsu Forum angel’s WISE (Women Investing in and Supporting Entrepreneurs) group. In addition, Rachel volunteers in various roles for California Clean Tech Open – a business-plan competition that encourages the development of clean technology companies. Rachel holds a Chemical Engineering degree with a concentration in Environmental Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Rachel was also a sponsored fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where she received an MBA and a Masters in Civil and Environmental Engineering, with a focus on operations and supply chain.
She has been in involved with the EYH Network since the late 70’s, is on the planning committee of the SF-EYH, and frequently presents a workshop for parents and teachers at that conference. |

Gretchen Walker, Vice President
Gretchen Walker is the Public Science Center Director at the Lawrence Hall of Science, the University of California, Berkeley’s public science center serving over 250,000 students and families. In her work at the Lawrence Hall of Science, she is most proud of the Ingenuity in Action project, a program that engages families in engineering design challenges facilitated by undergraduate engineering students.
Gretchen has more than 10 years of experience in informal science education, including exhibit, multimedia, program, and curriculum development. Her experience includes the design and management of youth internship programs centered on science research participation, museum floor education work experience, service learning, and volunteering at the Lawrence Hall of Science, the American Museum of Natural History, and the University of Maryland. She was the lead author on “NASA and Afterschool: Connecting to the Future”, a two year study of the use of NASA curriculum materials in afterschool settings and resultant recommendations for NASA on supporting afterschool programming. Her experience also includes four years of teaching in a high school classroom in a working class Bay Area suburb.
Gretchen holds a degree in Astronomy and Physics from Smith College. She also completed a master’s degree in Science Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her thesis studied the educational effectiveness of the interactives in the museum exhibition “Einstein”, the American Museum of Natural History produced exhibition for which served as the assistant curator.
Gretchen is also on the leadership team for CalGIRLS, the California Chapter of the National Girls Collaborative, a project dedicated to connecting and increasing the effectiveness of girl-serving science, technology, engineering and math programs.

Aileen DeSoto, Secretary
Aileen DeSoto was formerly a Vice President of Product Development at Linkify. She has fifteen years experience in consulting, project management, marketing, sales, and team building and has worked at several different companies.
Aileen graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and has done graduate work in marketing.
Through her affiliations with the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay and the East Bay Association for Women in Science, she has worked on various programs involving issues surrounding Children at Risk and projects promoting math and science to girls.
Recently Aileen made the decision to return to graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley where she is studied project management within the biomedical field. Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her two sons, Mitchell and Conner. She also enjoys hiking, golfing and traveling. |

Alpana Prabhu
Alpana Prabhu is a Director currently working with Symantec in the area of Business Transformation Operations. She has over 20 years experience encompassing organization design, team incubation & management, program management including analysis, design, delivery, enablement & operations, enterprise systems integrations & implementations in global & diverse work environments. Her industry experience spans High Tech, M&As, Healthcare, Government, Finance, Insurance and currently, Business Transformation. She has consulted with UNICEF, Copenhagen and high tech firms SUN Microsystems, VERITAS, CISCO in their Business and IT areas by identifying, shaping and bridging business needs with technology.
Alpana has conducted training sessions in Strategic Networking and served as a mentor for the Symantec Womens’ Action Network (SWAN). She has also served as a co-chair for the Event Program Booklet committee for the Cupertino Lunar New Year Unity Parade, and as Entertainment Chair for the Bay Area Konkani Association. Her article on Leadership and Project Management was published by DevX.com.
Alpana holds a BS from the Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics and a Post Graduate diploma in Computer Science & Management. She joined the EYH Board in 2010 as her personal goals align with EYH’s mission & goals – motivate girls to become innovative and creative thinkers ready to meet 21st Century challenges.
Ms. Prabhu enjoys her work, reading diverse topics, organizing events that include friends and family and conversing with people from diverse backgrounds to see the world through their eyes. She resides in Cupertino, CA with her husband and son. |

Shannon Madison
Shannon Madison is an Instructional Designer at Google, responsible for the Developer Qualification program. Shannon began her career as a Software Engineer with Apple Computer but later moved into Product Management and then Instructional Design. Shannon has developed learning programs in a diversity of technical fields, including CAD/CAM, Semiconductors, Relational Database Management, NAS/SAN Storage, Software Design, Networking and Internet industries. She currently devotes 20% of her time at Google towards Intergroups, Authors@Google, and K-12 Diversity Initiatives, including her work with The Girls’ Middle School, Techbridge, Citizen Schools, Girl Scouts, Expanding Your Horizons and many other outreach organizations. She serves on the advisory board for Engineer Your Life, a project for high school girls and the adults in their lives (parents, counselors, teachers, and other educators) who want to learn more about what life and work are like for engineers. Shannon holds a B.Sc. in Computer and Electrical Engineering, a B.A. in Philosophy, and a M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering. |

Betsey Rapp
Betsey Rapp is a marketing professional in the healthcare industry with over ten years of experience, primarily focused on new product launches. She currently works at Crescendo Bioscience, a privately-held molecular diagnostics company focused on rheumatology. Prior to Crescendo, Betsey spent four years at Genentech working on the launch of several novel oncology products in a market strategy and marketing capacity. Before Genentech she held a variety of consulting roles in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry.
Betsey holds a B.S in BioPsychology from Tufts University and an MBA from Columbia Business School. At EYH/N Betsey primarily focuses on leading the development of technology solutions to help the organization acheive its strategic objectives.

Stacey Roberts-Ohr, Executive Director
Stacey Roberts-Ohr came to the Expanding Your Horizons Network in May of 2002. Before coming to EYHN, Stacey was employed as the Coordinator of Field Experience in the Department of Elementary Education at San Francisco University. Stacey holds two Masters degrees, one in Jewish communal service from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and a Masters in social work, from the University of California. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Community services from Michigan State University.
In Stacey's free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, watching documentary films and spending time with her husband, Andrew. |
