My name is Beth Benedict. I work at the California Maritime Academy.
Our school is part of the state school system and we are involved in training young sailors to go out to sea and work on vessels across the entire nation.
We have a training ship that goes out every summer. It goes to Hawaii, Australia, Fiji, through the Panama Canal, South America. Next year it will be going to...hopefully to Europe...not this coming summer but the next summer, so our school is training young students to go out into the world and navigate.
Our school has two main fields of study. One being engineering and one being navigation. And our goal is to have highly trained people that can go out there and successfully navigate.
