Activities" by Teri Perl: $14.95 each Informative and fascinating biographies of nine women mathematicians from the 4th century through the 20th century; includes math problems related to the work of each woman, solutions, plus suggested readings and references. Recommended for young people from middle school and up. In 1982 Math Equals was cited by the American Library Association's Choice magazine for its outstanding contribution to mathematics. Author's Comments: This book was written at about the same time that EYH was born. Both events, the book and the founding of the organization, were our response to the Women's Movement of the early 70's. At that time many of the women in the book were virtually unknown. What makes it even more fun is that each biography includes a related math activity or puzzle, one that is interesting, connected to the area in which the women worked, yet 'doable' by folks with pretty basic math skills. Here's a chance to read about some terrific women ... women who managed, against so many odds, to fulfill their potential. They loved mathematics, they wanted to do mathematics, they DID mathematics.
